FOUR WAYS THAT YOUR SUPPORT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN 2011:
1. Through our LOCATE: Child Care program, more than 500 families are able to transition from public assistance to work with support to find licensed child care. This is a safety-net issue along with food, shelter, jobs, and access to health care because when child care is lost, self-sufficiency is threatened.
2. More than 120 first-time, at-risk moms will receive comprehensive in-home intervention through Healthy Families Prince George’s that will yield healthy birth outcomes and prevent child abuse and neglect. A case of child abuse is reported every 10 seconds in the United States; there was no suspected child abuse among Healthy Families mothers in 2010.
3. At least 100 families will work to create healthy and nurturing environments for their children by improving their own literacy skills, learning about child development, and becoming involved in their children’s education through the Family Support Center. Every dollar invested in adult literacy has a $7 return!
4. More than 3,000 early care and education professionals will attend classes that will help them foster school readiness in young children. Quality early childhood education saves communities at least $14 for every $1 invested.
