After 25 Years….

May 9, 2016

To the Community, Friends, and Families of Prince Georges Child Resource Center,

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the Prince George’s Child Resource Center (PGCRC), we want to thank Marti for her fearless performance and dedication during the past 25 years as we congratulate her on her retirement. Her years here have been marked by unsurpassed efficiency and excellence and she has truly been an inspiration to us all.

Marti founded the Resource Center in 1990 to assist families searching for quality child care. A few years later, Marti opened the Adelphi/Langley Park Family Support Center in 1994 and added the Healthy Families Prince George’s program in 1998. Last year, she added another component to PGCRC, the Diaper Bank, which served over 550 families. Throughout the years, the organization kept growing and adding programs, in spite of the recession in the late 2000s. These factors support my belief that this is one of the most structured and successful organizations in this industry.

In her 25 years, she has grown the organization to a thriving staff of more than thirty, all singularly committed to creating healthy and nurturing environments for children. Her diligence has tremendously benefited the organization, and I am sure that the remaining employees will strive for exceptional performance as did she. While she will be missed, she undoubtedly deserves our gratitude for her efforts and a joyous retirement. Please join with the board of directors in recognizing and celebrating the community impact that Marti Worshtil has made upon the children and families of Prince George’s County. Please take a moment to read Marti’s message below.

Warmest Regards,

PGChild26Colleagues, Partners and Friends,

Over the last 25 years many of you started out as work colleagues and became close friends, so it is with mixed emotions I am letting you know that I have decided to retire. It absolutely feels like the right time for me personally, but how do you graciously give up something you love so dearly? Twenty-five years ago this organization was just a good idea that a few thought would improve the lives of some families. Little did any of us know that together we were about to build something pretty special.

Since 1990, the Prince George’s Child Resource Center touched the lives of thousands. I say that with pride because of the incredible team we built, all dedicated to the goal of improving the lives of children and I thank each and every one of you. I thank the caring people that funded us and shared our vision. I thank the child care community that came to us to learn and taught us even more. I thank the families that trusted us enough to open their doors and hearts. I thank the volunteers for sharing not only their time but also knowledge and expertise. And most of all I thank the incredible Resource Center staff. What a group of dedicated and passionate people who always kept me on my toes and made coming to work each day a joy. I will miss each one of you.

And while I am not sure about my next adventure, I know it will include more time with my incredible family, more travel and no alarm clocks! I will be at my desk until June 30th at which time I will collect all my blue pens (those of you with government contracts will understand) and gift them to my successor. I will not say goodbye to my colleagues, partners and dear friends, instead I share my email with a request to each of you to stay in touch.
