Prince George’s Child Resource Center transforms the lives of low-income women, children, and families by advocating for quality, effective, and accessible child care; and eliminating mental, physical, and emotional health disparities in children. Each year at this time The Resource Center makes a special request for your generosity. We need your support.
As a community, we can no longer let early childhood mental health be the elephant in the room. Through Project WIN, Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants support early childhood educators and families to address behavioral concerns in children age 2-5.
Meet Cindy:
Cindy is a three-year-old with a big, bright smile. During her first week at a new child care center, she “threw tantrums” and even bit a classmate. The center director and staff addressed Cindy’s issues by moving her to another classroom. When the behavior did not improve, Cindy was at risk of being expelled, which even put Cindy’s mom in jeopardy of losing her job.
The center director learned about Project WIN and called our Early Childhood Mental Health consultant to observe Cindy and the classroom environment. Cindy was referred for additional assessment and support, and the child care staff were coached on how to improve the social- emotional climate of their classrooms. This not only benefited Cindy, but ALL children at the center. Within a few weeks of intervention, Cindy began to show remarkable progress in her behavior. She is thriving and mom is thrilled.
