Maryland General Assembly 2024: Who is Making the First Decisions about the State Budget?

Every January, Maryland’s Governor proposes a budget. A budget proposal is a statement of priorities, and child care is in there!

The details of the final state budget each year are up to the Delegates and Senators in the General Assembly. Delegates and Senators will hold hearings in committees, consider testimony, and make line-by-line decisions about whether and how to invest in child care – and lots of services that help keep Maryland running!

First up this February:

  • The House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Education and Economic Development will hold a hearing on the MSDE Early Childhood budget on Wednesday, February 21 at 1:00. Is your Maryland Delegate on this Subcommittee, or on the full House Appropriations Committee? Check out the lists below!
  • The Senate Budget and Tax Subcommittee on Education, Business and Administration will hold a hearing on the MSDE Early Childhood budget on Friday, February 23 at 11:30. Is your Maryland Senator on this subcommittee, or on the full Senate Budget and Tax Committee? Check out the lists below!

Any time is a good time to let your Delegate and Senator hear from you!

Throughout this legislative session the Delegates and Senators that represent you and your neighborhood are all important! Use the tools here to make sure you have names and ways to contact them!

Thank you for your Joining Voices teamwork!
