Family Support Center Prince George’s has welcomed spring 2026 with several events and activities!
March was celebrated as National Reading Month! Participants were encouraged to read with their children exploring new stories, presenting in class and introducing the vocabulary they learned and explaining the message of the story and what they learned from it. During Adult Education classes we also solved crossword puzzles, put together a story and had a lot of fun sharing ideas about the reading they did.
March was a wrap up for employment readiness activities. Participants completed the 5 sessions, e.g. completing skills and interest assessment, developing career goals, filling out job applications, preparing resumes, and had mock interviews.
Another March highlight was celebrating International Women’s Day with Healthy Families home visiting program at our Peer Connections event.
One of the important programs FSCPG began is the start of eight Circle of Security (COS) sessions conducted by the Program Director and Service Coordinator. The courses help parents/caregivers build secure, healthy emotional relationships with their children. Participants will learn how to become a ‘secure base’ (so children feel safe to explore) and a ‘safe haven’ (so children feel comforted when upset), which consequently teaches children to manage their own feelings over time. The sessions will continue in the month of April.
The participants have requested an “Egg Hunt” activity that is planned in April. FSCPG is planning a fun day for children and parents to be able to socialize and enjoy the weather!
Earth Day is planned on April 20th and 21st! Families will learn useful garden vocabulary and do coordinated activities understanding and loving gardening and nature. Customized lesson plans in the Adult Ed classrooms will be coordinated with the Child Development classroom and implemented in class.
