Meet Katherine, a GREAT MOM!

We are continually inspired by young moms like Katherine. When she first enrolled in the Resource Center’s Healthy Families Prince George’s program one year ago at 19, she was pregnant with her second child, spoke no English, and had nowhere to live because the father of her baby had disappeared from her life.

Resource Center staff advocated on her behalf and secured a placement for her at St. Ann’s Infant and Maternity Home. She enrolled in Northwestern High School, confident that her children were being well cared for at St. Ann’s child care center.

After one year, she has learned a great deal of English and is earning all A’s and high B’s. Her teachers noted on her report card that she has a “positive attitude toward learning.” Everyone admires her determination as she balances the demands of school with caring for Rony (age 2) and Marjorie (9 months). Her Family Support Worker says Katherine has learned so much about infant development and is dedicated to making the best life possible for her children.

Katherine is taking every advantage of what is offered her, and plans to pay it forward. She hopes to work one day in a program like Healthy Families so that she can help other moms achieve their goals so that their children can have healthy and happy lives. Katherine knows she can’t stop with her high school diploma and is ready and eager for the challenge of college!
