Child Care Support Services

Prince George’s Child Resource Center is a member organization of the Maryland Child Care Resource Network with funding from Maryland State Department of Education through Maryland Family Network. The Community Programs division at Prince George’s Child Resource Center supports families and children through educational programs and technical assistance for the child care provider community. Resource Center Training:

The Resource Center offers Maryland State Department of Education approved Core of Knowledge (COK) training in child development, curriculum, community, special needs, professionalism and health, safety and nutrition to help child care professionals meet start up and continuing training needs for license renewal. Specialty classes such as the 45 Hour Infant and Toddler course, 45 Hour Administrative Course, and Infant and Toddler Assessment are available on a rotating basis. Workshops are offered in the evenings and on Saturdays throughout the year. Resource Center staff are available to help participants make appropriate choices that enhance their professional development.

Technical Assistance and coaching

The Resource Center offers a variety of services to support early childhood educators as they start and expand programs, as well as helping with the day to day maintenance of program standards. This includes telephone consultation as well as site visits to both child care centers and family child care homes. The Technical Assistance Coordinator works closely with the Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants to provide services to caregivers who are experiencing behavioral issues with children in their programs and/or providers experiencing issues with caring for children with special needs. ASSISTANCE WITH MARYLAND excels

Maryland EXCELS participants can receive one-on-one support from our Professional Development Specialist, Laura Terrell at 301.772.8420, extension 1011. PGCRC staff work cooperatively with Quality Assurance Specialist to provide monthly work groups where child care providers can receive direct assistance with Maryland EXCELS.

Other Services

Resource Room: The Resource Room is part of our Training Room it is available for use during our regular business hours: Monday – Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm. The Resource Room may be used in the evenings when there are workshops. Arrive at least twenty minutes before scheduled workshops to browse through informational tables and displays. The Resource Room also contains samples of Maryland State Department of Education approved curriculums, an Accu-cut machine, book binding machine, paper cutter, heavy duty stapler, waxer and laminating machines, as well as reference materials and children’s books. Use of the equipment is free; however, there is a small fee for certain supplies.
